Celebrating (& Needing) One Another (5th Sunday Generation Service!)

This 5th Sunday, Frank Patrick will be our guest speaker. We're celebrating the older generation in the church and how vital they are to us all. Frank has an article coming out next month in SAGE magazine that I've asked permission to share here as a primer for our time together on Sunday. I trust it (and our service) will encourage you all, regardless of the generation you're a part of!

Blessings,

Pastor Tracy

________________________________

I’ve noticed something recently. I’ll be seventy-six years old this coming March, and a number of people aged twenty and thirty-something are willing to include me in their company, both individually and as a group.

The reason that I was a little surprised at first is that my generation, the so-called Baby Boomers who were born from 1946 to 1966 (Canadian stats), largely came of age in the fifties and sixties.

During that era I remember well listening to the Beatles as they sang tunes like “Will you still need me, will you still feed me, when I’m sixty-four?” Another popular group told high school students “don’t trust anyone over thirty!”. Teens of that day ‘spoke’ the language of the music that they listened to, and very often took the lyrics to heart.

There were many other contributing factors, of course, but the fallout from the overemphasis on youth led to what became known as the “Generation Gap”. This phenomenon was largely found in western Europe, the United Kingdom, and North America, and grandparents, parents, teachers, authority figures of any kind, and pastors were viewed with suspicion. Teens and young adults relied on what they heard from their peers to guide them, and the idea of having a mentor was out of the question. Teen-only youth groups were popularized.

Fortunately for me, I served in the Army Reserves and the Regular Forces during my teen years and experienced the tremendous value that came from having older and more experienced people in my life to guide me. Coming from a broken home I especially benefitted from those influencers in my life. Many of my peers didn’t have any input of that nature in their lives, and it showed.

Ever since my early twenties I have sought out godly women and men for their advice and encouragement. I wouldn’t be who | am today without their influence in my life.

Here’s an example: I was asked by the late James MacKnight, who was the General Superintendent of the PAOC at the time, to attend a special committee meeting at our head office. At the coffee break, I asked Bill Griffin how it was that about eight leaders in their own right could sit at the table and make major decisions together without open conflict.

His reply wasn’t what | expected. “Do you see that door?” he asked. “When you come through that door, you leave your personal agenda out in the hallway and you ask yourself this question ‘What's best for the Fellowship?’”. In that moment he mentored me, and over forty years later I can still recall what he said. Powerful!

In our senior years, it’s easy to sit back and say that ‘we’ve done our bit’ for the kingdom. May I suggest something to you? That’s called peer mentoring, by the way.

We have untold millions of younger Canadians, both in the church and not, who’ve reaped the whirlwind of our generation insisting that ‘drugs, sex, and rock and roll’ was what life was all about. Many are not only from broken families, their peers are as well. So where do they go for guidance?

The media? Social networking? Their friends, who are usually no better off than they are? There is another option, of course. Us!

The Bible is replete with examples of younger women and men benefiting from the guidance of those older than themselves. Unfortunately, many of our churches do virtually nothing in terms of intergenerational relationships (one of the things that I notice, in my work as a church consultant), so the possibility of developing quality mentoring relationships is difficult. Unless...unless we do something about that ourselves, outside of the structure of our church.

This weekend take a moment and notice, I mean really notice, those who are attending your Sunday services. Are there any younger singles, or couples? What about single parents, or students? Don’t assume that they are already connected in some way with your congregation. Many are not. Invite them out for lunch following the service, or during the week. Offer to be of assistance to them in some way. Find out what their needs are, and help them with those. Most importantly sit with them and really listen to their story. Ask leading questions. Don’t judge them. Love them. My young friends say that it’s precisely because of my age and life experiences that they seek me out, and once they know that you really do care about them they’ll want to be with you as well.

Church Isn't Meant to Be Lonely (let us help you connect, train and impact!)

I want to take a moment to remind you today that church is not meant to be lonely. Church, by definition, is us working together, learning together, growing together, and encouraging one another. We can't organize or program that into your life but we do our best to create opportunities for this to happen intentionally.

And so, Connecting Point. CP is what we call our small groups. It's a strategic point in your week to connect with God and others. It's also a place to train to be like Jesus and find ways to impact your world for Him.

New groups are launching in a couple of weeks and I strongly encourage you to be a part of one. The lineup has lots of options our hope is that there is one that makes sense for you this winter.

Speaking of new things... our CP format now has two streams: Connect Groups and Life Groups.

  • Connect Groups meet for one session (February-March) and group members will choose a new group in the fall.

  • Life Groups meet for the duration of the school year (October-May) and group members will have the option to continue on or choose a new group in fall 2023.

Be sure you make note of whether the CP group you're interested in is Connect or Life.

Ready to see for yourself? Everything is ready for you on our website including how to sign up and how to get the book or study materials that you need.

We also have some more exciting things available this winter... find out more on the same page on our website:

  • Alpha

  • Sunday Night Conversations: Media - Navigating Everything (February 5)

  • Women's Mentoring + Women's Prayer Group

  • Frontline: Men of Freedom

It's going to be a great season of growing together, church! Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. We are here to equip you to connect with God and others, train to be more like Jesus and impact the world for Christ.

Navigating... Everything (living with media in a healthy way)

I accidentally sat in on a seminar last fall and I was so glad I did. Planned for our youth to participate in Media: Navigating Everything with Brett UlIman and I dropped a carful of youth off at the church that was hosting. I grabbed a coffee, the Wifi password, and settled into the back row planning to get some work done on my laptop while the students learned something. I accomplished almost nothing.

I know that the students got a lot out of the content from the conversations we had on the way home. But I knew that what I had just heard was important for everyone who is navigating a culture that is dominated by technology and social media - so, everyone.

Let me invite you to our next Sunday Night Conversation with Brett as our guest presenter - Media: Navigating Everything - on Sunday, February 5 at 6pm.

My generation is the first to raise kids who are digital natives. Honestly, we don't always know what we're doing. This seminar is geared toward parents and kids but will be insightful, practical and applicable for everyone who uses technology (i.e. all of us!).

For more information, check out Brett's website.
You can also download a poster and invite someone to join you.

Looking forward to learning with you!

New Year, Old Questions (Alpha is coming!)

It's a new year but people still have the same questions about life and faith. That's why we're continuing to offer Alpha at Freedom.

Alpha is a way to inspire and equip churches to create a space where people from any background can encounter Jesus. The same Alpha content is run all over the world, by Christians of all traditions, and provides a common expression of faith. Over 1 million people in Canada have experienced Alpha, and millions more have taken Alpha in over 100 countries and over 100 languages around the globe.

Alpha sessions include these topics:

  • Is there more to life than this?

  • Who is Jesus?

  • Why did Jesus die?

  • How can I have faith?

  • Why and how do I pray?

  • Why and how do I read the Bible?

  • How does God guide us?

  • Who is the Holy Spirit?

  • What does the Holy Spirit do?

  • How can I be filled with the Holy Spirit?

  • How can I make the most of the rest of my life?

  • How can I resist evil?

  • Why and how should I tell others?

  • Does God heal today?

  • What about the Church?

Sound like something you or someone you know would like to explore? Go ahead and check out the Alpha page on our website and take some time this new year to get those questions answered!

Grateful to share in this hope with you!

What Happens After the 12 Days of Christmas? (Epiphany!)

Did you know that this is the 5th day of Christmas? (10 points if you can tell me what your true love should give to you today… Yep, fi-----ve golden rings!)

After the 12th day of Christmas, the historic Church celebrated Epiphany on January 6th. The Christmas season is over, and a new season is beginning.

In the Eastern church, they celebrate Jesus’ baptism, recognizing His manifestation as the Son of God. In the Western church (that’s us!), Epiphany is a celebration of the coming of Christ for the Gentiles. The word comes from the Greek for “appearance” or “manifestation” and the story of the Magi’s visit in Matthew 2:1-12 is the centrepiece.

In English, when you have an epiphany, you suddenly understand the nature or meaning of something. That’s the incredible story of the wise men in Matthew 2. Even though they had everything that the world could offer them, they saw the star, followed it and suddenly understood that they were in the presence of true beauty and holiness.

We're going to talk about this and see ourselves in this story when we gather on Sunday for a New Year's Day service. We will also be starting our year in a beautiful way - observing Communion and praying for each and every person or family who is with us (on and OFF Campus!).

Happy 5th Day of Christmas, Freedom. I trust you're having a restful holiday week. Looking forward to ringing in the new year with you on Sunday!

Pastor Tracy

A Season of... Christ (the fifth Sunday of Advent)

This Sunday's Advent theme is Christ. It's all been leading to Him, pointing to Him. And this weekend, it continues to be about Him. We've been preparing in so many ways for this season and it's finally here - moments to pause and see Christ as a baby born in a manger, knowing what comes next for Him and what that's going to mean for the whole world... and for us.

On Saturday (Christmas Eve) at 4:00, we're gathering for our service. We'll have fun, sing carols, light candles and most importantly, hear the Christmas story.

On Christmas at 10:00, we're gathering again for our regular service, which is always special when Christmas lands on a Sunday.

And so, here is a little sneak peek at the song you'll hear during our candle lighting on Christmas Eve. The lyrics are beautiful...

How do you mend a broken world?
Give it a gift it could never earn
Pour out a love that it don’t deserve
Send it a Son and a Saviour

How do you repay the gift of life?
What’s the return on a sacrifice?
’Cause silver and gold won’t suffice
So, I’m giving my heart as my reply
— Silent Night (116 feat. Crystal Nicole)

Can't wait to celebrate with you this weekend,

A Season of... Peace (the fourth Sunday of Advent)

This Sunday's Advent theme is peace. The Bible Project's video about the word "peace" in scripture is, again, very helpful as we reflect on this season. Peace is not simply the absence of conflict. The Hebrew word "shalom" paints a picture of something that is complex being brought to completion, all the pieces coming together in wholeness. How beautiful.

Ephesians 2:14 says that Christ Himself is our peace. In fact, Isaiah prophesied that Jesus would be the very Prince of Peace. That's why the angels joined as a great company on the night Jesus was born in Bethlehem and praised God for the peace He would bring. (Luke 2:14)

Take a look at the linked video and pray to understand and receive the peace we've been given in Jesus.

Shalom,
Pastor Tracy

A Season of... Joy (the third Sunday of Advent)

This Sunday's Advent theme is joy. The Bible Project's video about the word "joy" in scripture is so insightful. It shares why Christians can be known to be full of joy even in hardship or persecution, why the Apostle Paul can say that he's chosen joy, even if he's executed.

This joy isn't a happy feeling. It's powerful and it's a gift of the Spirit. It's available to us and growing in our lives when we cooperate with His work. (See Galatians 5:22-23!) And, it's where we'll focus for Advent this week.

Ultimately, Jesus is the source of and reason for our joy. So, it's no wonder that when the angels were announcing His birth to the shepherds they called it "good news that will cause great joy for all the people." (Luke 2:10)

Take a look at the linked video and prepare your heart for the joy of the season!

With joy,

A Season of... Love (the second Sunday of Advent)

This Sunday's Advent theme is love. It's always appropriate to set our focus on the love of God and how we are called to express it in our lives. Just think of the Greatest Commandment. In Matthew 22:37-39, when Jesus was asked what the greatest commandment is, he said: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’"

We know that love is important and this Sunday, beautifully, we are gathering around the Communion table to remember Jesus' ultimate act of love for us... the reason that we can love others and fulfill Jesus' command. When we recognize the great love of God for us displayed on the cross, we can live in that kind of love in our families, our schools, our places of work and our neighbourhoods.

Take a moment to reflect on this week's Advent theme: love. The video below is helpful - take a few minutes to watch if you can.

I'm looking forward to journeying through the second Sunday of Advent with you!

A Season of... Hope (welcome to Advent)

Sunday marks the first day of the season of Advent. At the risk of repeating myself (because I say and/or write something about this every year), I want to invite you into this very special season by highlighting why we celebrate it.

Advent isn't simply the beginning of Christmas. In the Christian liturgical calendar, Christmas is Christmas! Well, actually, Christmas is 12 days, from December 25th until January 5th, leading to Epiphany on January 6th... but we'll talk about that during our New Year's Day service!

Advent is the season of anticipating the coming of Christ, preparing our hearts, making room, remembering the longing of the Jews as they waited for the Messiah and ultimately, identifying with that longing as we wait for Christ's return. How beautiful.

On Sunday our physical space will look different (here come the trees and lights!) and our services will include features about the themes of Advent: hope, love, joy, and peace. We will light a candle to remind us of these themes and on Christmas morning we will light the final candle representing Christ.

Take a look at the Bible Project's teaching on the biblical words for "hope", the first theme in the Advent season. Consider the hope you have in Christ and our great hope in His second coming.

Welcome to Advent.

See you on Sunday,
Pastor Tracy

Christmas Time is... Near! (SHAPED for Serving this season)

Our Shaped for Serving workshop reminded me of just how uniquely created and gifted each one of us is. Things that I love to do or come easily to me could be the same things that another person has no interest in or finds difficult... and vice versa! It's a really beautiful thing when we learn to appreciate it... and Scott certainly helped us to do that during the workshop.

This idea fits really well with all that we're planning for Christmas at Freedom this year. No need to try to "do it all" or get overwhelmed... we have a few seasonal events and opportunities that we hope will inspire lots of different people to get involved.

Williamsburg Family Christmas Event

  • Sunday, December 18 @ 12:00-2:00

  • Volunteer: Contact Pastor Erin

  • Attend: Mark your calendar and watch for details!

Decorate the Church for Christmas

House of Friendship Christmas Hampers

  • Find needed items on our website: freedomkw.com/offer-help

  • Drop off purchased items at the church by November 30th.

  • Watch for an opportunity to bless The Pregnancy Centre coming up in December!

  • What is a special tradition in your family? Let Pastor Tracy know and we'll use your stories throughout our Advent and Christmas services!

God has so beautifully gifted His church. I'm looking forward to serving alongside you as we all put what He's given us to use for His kingdom... inside and outside the church!

Let's Start at the Beginning (it's a very good place to start!)

Sometimes, one thing informs another. Have you ever found this? You start doing one thing and it leads to something else that leads you back to the first thing but more deeply. That might seem a bit ambiguous but that's what I feel has happened in church life over the past few weeks. Let me explain.

We launched Sunday Night Conversations (SNC) with a discussion on the sanctity of life, primarily focusing on the issues surrounding abortion. While our conversation was appropriately heavy, it was also beautiful, encouraging, challenging and helpful. As part of my research for the night, I had a chance to Zoom with the Executive Director of The Pregnancy Centre in Kitchener (thanks for taking the time, Jenn!). It was enlightening and I left that conversation more informed and also inspired by the good work that they are doing at TPC.

From that, Pastor Erin and I were talking about how we can help the community this Christmas season. The heart of our church is to find the places where needs can be met and the love of Christ can be shown in practical ways. So, we are doing Christmas hampers for five families whom House of Friendship has identified as being in need but don't qualify for other programs. And then, in the month of December, we're going to collect stroller covers for TPC (and make a Christmas tree out of them in the lobby!) because we asked what they really needed and that's what they said. We can do that.

I was shown in new ways how meeting the needs around us can show people who are hopeless or simply feel like they have no options that they are loved and not alone, that they do have options and there is someone to help them. Simple and profound. What a sobering (and inspiring!) reminder.

So our SNC informed our Christmas collections in November and December and those things started to stir another conversation and settled my heart on what our next SNC should be.

Why do we do these things and think this way? It's because we believe what the Bible says and trust it to guide our lives. That is the basis of every SNC. That's our worldview, the lens that we look at everything through. So... how do we know that we can trust the Bible? It is actually trustworthy after all of these years and all the translations and all that we know now in modern society?

So, our next Sunday Night Conversation, coming up on November 20th, will be about precisely that. We'll lay the foundation of why we believe in the authority of scripture and also leave lots of space for you to ask any "yeah, buts" that you might have. I know that you face this in your families and workplaces and I'd like for us to talk about it. Join me if you can.

From this to that and back again. I love when that happens. So let's start at the beginning on November 20th... it's a very good place to start. :)

Looking forward to it,
Pastor Tracy

Follow The Peace (God's will for your life!)

Have you ever wondered what the will of God is for your life? Ever stressed about messing it up or choosing the wrong path? Trust me, you're not alone.

I actually like the question because there's an underlying assumption that God has a plan for your life and that doing it His way will be the best way. Scripture definitely backs that up. (See Ephesians 2:10, Romans 8:28, Jeremiah 1:5, Psalm 32:8, Proverbs 3:5-6)

Where we need to be cautious is when we are stressing about the future or worried about getting it right. Jesus told us in no uncertain terms not to do that, like, at all. (Matthew 6:25-34)

On Sunday we're going to talk about how to know what the will of God is for your life and, spoiler alert, it's more simple than you might realize. It's much more about the posture of your heart than the writing on the wall. (Take a sneak peek for yourself: 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

But when it comes to the specifics of making decisions in your life, there is a way that I counsel people to know if they are following the path that the Lord has for them. I tell them to follow the peace. When we truly lay down our preferences and pride, our need to control and our fear (and whatever else we're carrying when it comes to our future) and ask Jesus, the Prince of Peace, to show us what's next, I have always found that I can make decisions with a great degree of confidence because my mind and heart are at peace. When you consider your options, which one brings peace?

I will tell you from experience that feeling the peace of Christ doesn't mean that I am choosing the easiest path or necessarily the one that I thought I wanted. That's not guaranteed. But walking in His peace is worth it every time. Every. Single. Time.

"You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you." (Isaiah 26:3)

And so, if I may give you the best piece of counsel I have to know the will of God: follow the peace.

Let's talk more on Sunday!

See you then,
Pastor Tracy

A Fresh Look at "Outreach" (partnership, neighbours, helping)

Pastor Erin shared her vision for outreach, or Community Connections, on Sunday morning. I hope you were able to be there but in case you weren't or just simply for a refresher, here is her message to the church family for you to reflect on.

- Pastor Tracy

---------------------------------------------

Community Connections is about stepping outside of the four walls of the church and doing life with those around us. It’s about meeting the spiritual and physical needs of our community while expressing God’s love in ways that build relationships and provide opportunities to share the gospel message.

We have all received gifts and talents from God, and as such it is our privilege and responsibility to use these to minister to others.

At Freedom do this in 3 ways:

1. Partnership

By partnering with neighbouring community associations, we expand our reach by making our facilities and property available for their low-cost programs to bless the community. Through these partnerships, we can maximize our efforts by coming alongside programs that are already running instead of creating new ones.

These partnerships welcome the community into our space and help them see that this is a place they are always welcome.

Whenever possible we endeavour to be present during programs with Community Hosts. These Hosts may serve coffee or give away treats but most importantly they interact with people and build relationships.

2. Community Building

We desire to be intentionally active in the neighbourhood around us, not only as a green space but as a place that fosters community and relationship building. We do this through activities, events and programs that are focused on building relationships between us and the community and within the community itself. Examples of this may be hosting sports days, block parties or kids' drop-in programs.

3. Helping

In the same way that we will intentionally foster relationships, we want to be intentional about being the hands and feet of Jesus in our community. We recognize that we have been blessed and as such we are called to care for the needs of those around us, responding to the obvious needs and hidden poverty found in our community.

We do this by having an up-to-date and reasonable plan on how to address help requests (groceries, clothes, etc.) that we are made aware of. We recognize we cannot meet every need, but we can and will show compassion, love, and kindness in every situation.

We continue to partner with other organizations like Ray of Hope and House of Friendship who are already doing this work well. We will do more together than we could do alone.

Pavilion & Freedom Community Centre

Your investment in the Freedom Pavilion project is an investment in kingdom building. With this new facility, we will continue to host, connect with, and bless the community.

The Freedom Community Centre (FCC) has long been the heart of our community outreach. The Pavilion is an extension of the FCC, allowing us to dream bigger about how the property can be a spiritual oasis for our neighbours. Allowing the Pavilion to take on the role of hosting programs and inviting the community in frees up the FCC space for other opportunities.

In partnership with Matt and Tamara Smith, we have transformed the upstairs of the FCC into a retreat space. Upstairs you will now find a two-bedroom apartment where the Smiths can welcome missionaries in need of debriefing and healing from their work. When not in use for their ministry we will open this space to other churches, ministers and our Freedom Family in need of a quiet respite and a place to seek God.

Next Steps

The beauty of this focus is that every God-given gift and skill can find a place to serve.

Here are a few ways you can get involved (there are so many more):

  • Love cooking and meeting physical needs? We welcome you to help fill our freezer with meals to bless those on retreat or people and families that need to know they are cared for.

  • Don’t have the capacity to commit to a weekly program? You can help run a Block Party to connect with the community.

  • Love people and want to connect? Become a Community Host and get to know the people coming to the Church each week.

There is a way for everyone to IMPACT our community for Christ. We invite you to dream with us and put those dreams into action.

(Pastor Erin, Sunday, October 16, 2022)

Sunday Night Conversations (come for coffee, information and discussion)

I've heard from many people over the past several months that they just don't know how to respond to some of the tough questions that are being posed by their kids, their coworkers, the media... basically, our culture. Some have told me that they know what we believe but don't know why. Some have told me that they don't know where the church stands on certain issues. Some are asking how to teach their kids a biblical response to hot topics. Fair enough. Things are changing at breakneck speed and it's harder and harder to keep up.

With that in mind, I wanted to create a space where we could have these kinds of conversations. And I do mean conversations. While I'm not opposed to speaking about big issues on a Sunday morning, I believe that these topics need to be discussed, questions should be freely asked and time should be spent chewing on them.

This is why I'm not leading a CP group this season. I've been working on putting together Sunday Night Conversations, a series of sessions that will present the biblical viewpoint on big issues, offer a Christian response and give time and space for the "yeah, but what about(s)..." that you might have heard from others or have yourself.

I'm inviting you to join me for our first Sunday Night Conversation on Sunday, October 23 @ 6pm. We will be talking about the sanctity of life - abortion and medical assistance in dying. I'll share and then open up the conversation.

These conversations are open to anyone of any age but parents should use discretion as our content will be mature, controversial and likely rated PG-13.

Join me for a cup of coffee and a conversation a week from Sunday. I'd love to hear from you.

Blessings,
Pastor Tracy

New Season, Next Step (ready for what's next?)

I walked my dog this morning and checked the weather before I left the house. It was -1. If I didn't feel it before, I'm certainly feeling the fact that we're in a new season! You're probably feeling it, too.

New seasons often come with the desire to reprioritize, learn something new, or create a change in your life in some way. So I wanted to take the opportunity to invite you into any next steps in church life that you might have been thinking about.

Everything we do here at Freedom needs to CONNECT people to God and others, TRAIN us to be more like Jesus or IMPACT the world for Christ... preferably more than one at the same time! These are our core values and we're looking to have each one active and growing in our lives so that we can experience daily life transformation.

We've talked a lot about Connecting Point groups (which connect and train us and may even give us opportunities to impact the world!). We absolutely believe these groups are invaluable. They start next week so don't miss out on the chance to grow with others. LEARN MORE

There are also steps in church life that are available to you throughout the year. Allow me to draw your attention to some of them and encourage you to take these steps if they are what's next for you...

Water Baptism: coming up on Sunday, October 30

Church Membership: apply any time on our website

Child Dedication: can be coordinated on a Sunday that works for your family

Ministry Teams: find a fit for your gifts and interests

Pavilion Project: financially invest in this project

Life Transformations Blog: invite someone to be a part of this devotional

We're here for your next step - whatever it is!

Take a look at freedomkw.com/next and let us know how we can help you with what is next for you in this new season.

Stepping into NEXT with you!
Pastor Tracy

Pause for Thanks (so very, very grateful)

This is being written after a beautiful weekend of celebrating God's goodness at our Freedom Pavilion Grand Opening. I spent quite a bit of time putting together "thank-yous" for the dedication service and the ribbon cutting and want to share some of them with you. When we talk about the vision, mission and core values of the church, it's the church herself who embodies them. This project has been an incredible example of just that.

_____________________________________

"Thank you to the original Pavilion Committee led by Julie Schroth: Brian Domm, Sandra Park, Pastor Erin Jamieson and Callie Schmitz. You poured so much of your time and talent into dreaming about how we would use this building and then how to make it a reality. This was no small feat and we honour your work.

"Thank you to Brian Domm, specifically, who acted as the construction manager and oversaw every detail of construction. Your expertise was vital but we are especially grateful for the excitement and joy you brought to all of the very hard work that you did from day 1 back in December to landscaping last week.

"Thank you to the Board and Finance Committee who worked alongside the Committee every step of the way, giving oversight and taking on the risks that a project of this size brings with it. Your faith and thoughtful stewardship is something I wish more people could witness in real-time the way I get to.

"Thank you to Pastor Erin who took leadership of this project in March, jumped into a steep learning curve and saw it all the way through to storage shelves and pipe insulation. Your dedication to seeing this day happen kept us all believing we’d cross the finish line and here we are. We appreciate you so much.

"Thank you to every one of you who showed up, sometimes with only a few hours notice, to spread out straw or dig it back out again, to rake and rake and rake, to move in and move out and even today, to decorate and serve. All of it mattered and has made today possible.

"And thank you to each one who has sacrificed financially to build this pavilion. I remind you of the promise of God in 2 Corinthians 9 that when you have sowed generously, you will reap generously. We fully believe that and also that Jesus will be known in all that we do here at Freedom – you have helped us to expand our reach and ability to serve for the kingdom."

With so much gratitude,
Pastor Tracy

Life Transformation Campus (ready for a Pavilion party?!)

On March 6, 2017, Julie Schroth sent me an email with a drawing attached. It said: “At the last board meeting, you asked if anyone had access to a program for designing the pavilion. My brother has one he used for doing his house and shop blueprints… this is what he sketched up for me… I like to dream about this stuff.”

It took us 5.5 years, countless emails, meetings, and phone calls, stacks of paperwork and a million decisions. And now, the Freedom Pavilion is open and already being used as part of our Life Transformation Campus. Thank you, Jesus!

That really is our dream. We want all 10 acres of our property to work as a campus that enables and equips people to have their lives transformed by Christ. The Pavilion is the next step. It was ambitious, it was delayed by a global pandemic, and now it's complete, ready to be used to serve our neighbours and church family alike. What a blessing.

To thank you for being a part of it we want you to know that you are invited to the Grand Opening on Sunday. We're going to take some time to reflect and dedicate the new space in our service and then go out to the Pavilion for a ribbon-cutting and lunch. We'll have activities for the kids, give tours, answer questions and in general, have a party!

Please join us as we celebrate the goodness of God at work in our church and the next step of our Life Transformation Campus being complete.

Connect, Train & Impact (CP groups are back!)

I get it. Not everyone likes school. Lots of people are very glad that those days are behind them. But still, there is something so great about September. The air is crisp, the leaves are changing, and the stores are filled with fresh school supplies ready for new backpacks and pencil cases. Sigh. I get a little jealous.

I'm a little too practical to buy myself things that I don't need just because they are pretty (most of the time!). But I still like to capitalize on the burst of energy we get at the beginning of a new season even if we're not going back to school ourselves. Why not spend that capital on While we're talking about who the church is this month, one thing is certain: it's not meant to be lonely.

The lineup has lots of options our hope is that there is one that makes sense for you this fall.

Speaking of new things... our CP format now has two streams: Connect Groups and Life Groups. Connect Groups meet for one session (October-November) and group members will choose a new group in the new year. Life Groups meet for the duration of the school year (October-May) and group members will have the option to continue on or choose a new group in fall 2023. The listed group topic will be the starting point for LGs and other books/studies/topics will be added as the group grows together through the year. Be sure you make note of whether the CP group you're interested in is Connect or Life.

Ready to see for yourself? Everything is ready for you on our website including how to sign up and how to get the book or study materials that you need.

We also have some more exciting things available this fall... find out more on the same page on our website:

  • Alpha

  • The Bible & The Issues: Sunday Night Discussions

  • A Fresh Look at Pentecostal Beliefs: A Master's Micro-Course

  • Women's Mentoring

  • Frontline: Men of Freedom

It's going to be a great fall of growing together, church! Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. We are here to equip you to connect with God and others, train to be more like Jesus and impact the world for Christ.

Looking forward to October,

Pastor Tracy
